General Information:
|
| |
In all cities/towns/counties a dog license is MANDATORY for any dog 4 months of age or older. A Rabies shot is required to license. If your dog is spayed/neutered, proof of sterility is also required. If you move or add a new dog to your family - you need to license the dog within 30 days. Some cities offer voluntary cat licensing. If you want to license your cat, contact your Animal Control to see if it is offered.
|
| |
Many Animal Control agencies will offer spay/neuter vouchers in order to help with the cost of the surgery. Some vet offices have spay/neuter clinic days which are low cost. The pet population is out of control...PLEASE SPAY or NEUTER YOUR DOGS & CATS! It's healthier for them, makes the animal less likely to run away, and lowers the cost of licensing.

Law: Dog Tethering
|
| |
Effective January 1, 2007, a new California law went into effect making it illegal for people to tie up a dog for more than 3 hours within a 24 hour period. Exception to this is a cable pulley system. Dogs can no longer be tied up to trees, poles, dog houses, etc. As always, the dog or dogs must have access to water and shelter at all times.

Reminder: Animal Zoning
|
| |
All cities/towns/counties have zoning ordinances. Before adding a horse, goat, pig, multiple dogs/cats, or any animal, make sure your are within your zoning allowance. The limits and types of animals you are allowed can change when you move, so be aware - check before you move. It would be unfortunate to spend the time & money and fall in love with an animal you are not zoned to keep. Call the Planning Dept. and/or Animal Control to find out before you add to the family.
